More about the musicians:
Initially formed by Lindsay Straw (bouzouki, guitar, vocals) as a way to explore her own interest in the interconnected streams of folk music in Ireland, Britain, and America, the Ivy Leaf is a young stalwart of traditional Irish music in Boston, featuring Armand Aromin (fiddle, concertina, vocals, whistle), Dan Accardi (fiddle, concertina, accordion), Benedict Gagliardi (concertina, harmonica, vocals), and former member Caroline O’Shea (flute, whistle, vocals). The members’ diverse backgrounds in the rich Irish culture of Boston, Berklee College of Music and All-Ireland Fleadh Cheoil competitions combine to produce a sound that is “vibrant and sure-footed, and tailored to fully reveal each tune’s character and personality” (Sean Smith, Boston Irish Reporter). The Ivy Leaf has been featured at prestigious local venues such as Club Passim in Cambridge, the Irish Ceilidh Club of Rhode Island, and the New England Folk Festival. The group also teaches for the Boston Reynolds-Hanafin-Cooley branch of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann music school, as well as private lessons in the area.
